How do I apply?

Details on the application process are available on our How To Apply page

When was Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools Formed?
Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools has been serving the needs of Catholic students since
1990. Since then, it has grown from one elementary school to 14 schools, serving over 5300
students from kindergarten to grade 12 across south-central Alberta.

Where are your schools situated?
All of our schools are located in small urban or rural communities, many of which are a short
commute from a major city. From the small farming town of Oyen on our eastern border to the
picturesque mountain town of Canmore on our westerly side, the communities in between include
Brooks,Drumheller, Strathmore, Okotoks and High River. Please see our "Community Links" page
for further information.

What emphasis do you place on faith in your schools?
We exist because of our faith. It is of the utmost importance to us. We are committed to
deepening our students' relationship with Christ. Our faith is evident in all that we do.

What do you offer new teachers in your division?
Teaching with Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools is being part of a family. We encourage a
team approach with grade level team collaboration, formal mentorship programs, financial
assistance in setting up classrooms, and extensive professional development. Our leadership
team is committed to doing everything they can to provide small class sizes and generous
teacher prep time. Each school year is launched with a very comprehensive new teacher
orientation in an effort to set up each and every new teacher for success.

I am not Catholic, but am Christian and have a desire to teach in a Christian
environment. Do you only hire Catholic teachers?

We seek Catholic candidates for our vacancies. However, whenever a suitable Catholic
candidate cannot be found, we go beyond that scope. When it is necessary to do so, we
always consider factors such as evidence of Christian faith, comfort level and desire to be
in the Catholic environment, etc. Typically, we have considered non-Catholic candidates in
the senior math/science and band positions.

Why do you hire so many teachers relative to your size?
Since our formation, every school year has been a year of growth. Since 1995, we have
grown over 320%! As recent as 2001, two new schools were opened, and in the 2006-2007
school year one more will open its welcoming doors. Many of our positions are created due
to our growth.

What sort of faith development do you offer your teachers?
The ongoing faith-filled environment in each of our schools with liturgies, Masses and
celebrations is personal development in itself. In addition, our annual "Faith Days" is an
awe-inspiring faith experience for teachers and staff across our division to grow in their faith
journeys. The world renowned speakers and sessions offered during Faith Days focus on
personal faith growth. Other programs offered to enhance and deepen faith development are
weekend retreats and an optional summer institute.

My application package requires three letters from "professional supervisors".
Who should I request my letters of reference from?

Your professional supervisors are those who have observed your skills as a teacher. Some
of your most effective references are:

    • University facilitators who may have formally evaluated you,
    • School administrators who have been present in your classroom, or
    • Partner/cooperating teachers.

Your deadline for application packages is the end of January. If I am not in a
position to forward a complete package by that date, should I send what I have
now or wait until I can submit a complete application package?

The best application package is the one which is complete; however, at the end of January
most graduating teachers won't have all of the required documentation. We suggest you
forward all that you can and indicate in your cover letter what documents are deficient, and
when you expect to forward them. When forwarding deficient documents, please ensure
your name is clearly evident on those documents.

What if I miss the January 31st deadline? Should I still apply?
Absolutely! This is our time frame to begin the shortlist and selection process. We accept
application packages all year long. Please see our "Non-posted Positions" page.

Details on the application process are available on our How To Apply page.
